LACC welcomes children ages 8-12, and young men with changing voices, to audition for its nationally-recognized choral music education and performance program. Auditions for membership in LACC’s treble choirs take place each year in late spring; auditions for membership in the Young Men’s Ensemble (YME) take place in August. Auditions take place at LACC’s headquarters in the Pasadena Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California.
Younger children may enroll in First Experiences in Singing (FES), a non-auditioned program designed specifically for six- and seven-year-old children. Enrollment is now open for Fall FES classes. FES Information & Application
LACC offers children the opportunity to grow musically by supporting their healthy vocal development with a comprehensive, balanced, sequential program. Children enjoy the shared experience of creating choral music with their ensembles, acquire musicianship skills, develop individual voices through one-on-one vocal coaching, and build camaraderie and the “spirit of the ensemble” with fellow choristers at retreats and in rehearsal.
LACC also affords its choristers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in its national and international touring program, and experience the stage through collaborative performances with some of the world’s most prestigious companies such as the LA Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Through LACC’s transformative program, children discover their musical ability and creativity in a supportive environment that nurtures the whole child.

How do I request an audition?
You may request an Audition Information Form by phone at 626.793.4231, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by clicking Treble Audition Application or Young Men's Ensemble Audition Application. Return the form(s) by mail or fax. (Mail to: 585 E. Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91101; Fax to: 626.793.0173.) Audition scholarships are need-based and scholarship applications are available upon request.
How should I prepare?
No special preparation is necessary for the audition. It is suggested that you simply get a good night’s rest the night before and not eat or drink any dairy products for several hours before your audition.
What happens during the audition?
You and four other children will meet in a group with LACC’s conductors. You will be asked a few questions about your musical experiences. Together, you will learn about how LACC teaches singing and you will have fun singing together and individually. You will also have the opportunity to answer a few written questions about music. You will have an hour long musical experience with LACC. During your audition, your parents will attend an orientation to learn more about LACC and its expectations of choristers and their families.
For Young Men's Ensemble auditions, boys should prepare one solo art or folk song. Those interested in auditioning should be proficient in the fundamentals of musical notation and sight singing.
How will I learn whether or not I was accepted?
Within six weeks you will receive a letter notifying you of the results of your audition. Most choristers accepted into LACC will be admitted as members of the Preparatory Choir or Apprentice Choir. Some will be invited to join the First Experiences in Choral Singing (FECS) Ensemble, which prepares children to advance to the Preparatory Choir. FECS is open to auditioning children and six- and seven-year-old graduates of the three-level First Experiences in Singing (FES) program.
When will I rehearse?
Rehearsals for the first three divisions of the Chorus (Preparatory, Apprentice, and Intermediate Choirs) are held once a week, on a Monday or Tuesday in the late afternoon or early evening. Concert Choir rehearses early evenings on Sunday and Tuesday. The Young Men's Ensemble rehearses Sunday evening.
