Lauren Libaw to perform at Gala Bel Canto

March 15, 2017

Los Angeles Children’s Chorus is proud to honor Plácido Domingo and Jo Bufalino Libaw and Shawn D. Libaw at Gala Bel Canto on March 24, 2017. This year’s event will feature special performances by soprano and LACC alumna Lauren Libaw.

Italian-American soprano Lauren Libaw has been praised for her sparkling, “bright-toned” voice (New York Times) as well as her “warmth of tone and intensity of expression” (The New Yorker). She received her Master of Performance Degree from the Royal College of Music, London in 2016. Lauren made her professional debut at the Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels as the Angel (Jephtha) and has since sung at the Opéra Royal de Versailles (Don Giovanni) and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris (Dido & Aeneas). Recent and upcoming performances include Norina (Don Pasquale) for the Cockpit Theater, London and the Rye Arts Festival, Despina (Così fan tutte) for London’s Euphonia, Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi) for Norwegian National Opera’s Stage 2, Queen of Sheba (Solomon) for the Crosseny Festival, Wales, Messiah for the Paris Choral Society, and song recitals in Aix-en-Provence, Brussels, Florence, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. Her work in song in London has included recitals at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, the National Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum, as well as Messiaen and Prokofiev in concert at the invitation of Roger Vignoles.

Raised in Pasadena, California, Lauren is a proud alumna of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus with whom she sang for ten seasons. As a member of LACC, she sang in ten productions with Los Angeles Opera including three led by Maestro Domingo. She attended Polytechnic School and in her final year, won the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards. Lauren is a graduate of Yale University, where she sang leading roles and won the concerto and recital competitions, three academic prizes and the Sudler Prize for the Arts. She was a member of the young artist programs of the Britten Pears Foundation at the Aldeburgh Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and the Paris-based baroque ensemble Opéra Fuoco. Lauren is a citizen of both Italy and the United States.
