LACC’s open Masterclass is an opportunity for local educators to learn from luminaries in the choral education field. Music teachers, choral conductors, and private instructors are all welcome to join us at Pasadena Presbyterian Church to observe Therees working with LACC ensembles.

This fall, LACC welcomes renowned clinician Dr. Therees Hibbard to work with our Apprentice Choir, Intermediate Choir, and Concert Choir choristers in a series of workshops and Masterclasses. Therees began working with our choristers at our all-day retreat in Santa Monica in late October and will return in November for a series of intensive rehearsals with a culminating Masterclass that is open to the public on Wednesday, November 20 at 5:30 pm.

Dr. Therees Hibbard is Associate Professor of Music at St. Olaf College where she teaches choral conducting, choral literature, and voice. Therees has a unique and impactful way of incorporating movement into choral singing that allows the body to be both free and energized for the production of sound. She brings joy, positivity, and thoughtfulness to her classes which inspire wonderful results from our choristers. Read her full bio here.

LACC is grateful for the support of the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts for underwriting this Masterclass.

Engaging the Whole Singer for Choral Performance

“This session will focus on the musical, vocal, and expressive development of choral singers through the vocal/physical embodiment of music in rehearsal and performance. A demonstration and discussion of how building “body-voices” allows singers to feel, express, and understand the deep meaning in the music they are singing. Through the gentle progression of a simple movement class specifically designed with choral singers in mind, the participants and observers will experience how the engagement of the whole self when singing can have a profound effect on tone, phrasing, rhythmic integrity, musicality; and create a holistic approach to artistic choral performance.” – Dr. Therees Hibbard
